Jeroen van den Wijngaard (b. 1975) is a Dutch painter based in Utrecht. Largely self-taught, he has further developed his work through workshops with Rogier Willems and Danny Ferland.
His work focuses primarily on the human figure, where observation becomes a way of building connection without judgement. Rather than idealising his subjects, he seeks to capture something more fragile — moments in which a person appears both present and distant at the same time.
Jeroen works mainly in oil paint, his works are held in private collections.
In recent work, his attention has shifted toward a more subdued and introspective state of being. Figures emerge in a condition that can feel emotionally numbed — as if exhausted, inwardly turned, and at times overwhelmed — yet still undeniably human. It is within this restrained space that his paintings attempt to hold a sense of presence, inviting the viewer not to judge, but to recognise.
